I’m a fourth year Journalism Student studying at Colorado State University in Fort Collins. I was born and raised in Oklahoma, having only moved out to Colorado shortly before turning 18.
Despite my roots, I immediately felt very at home in Colorado, and have loved everything about living here. I haven’t forgotten where I came from however, and it’s because of that I want to become a journalist. No matter who I work for in the future, I want to make sure that I’m writing and reporting on stories that really matter.
I believe that the foundation for good reporting comes from a desire for understanding, and is further constructed by the technical skills needed to effectively communicate the stories affecting everyday people, both big and small.
I also believe that every journalist should strive to have their finger on the pulse of their community, and what is affecting/concerning them. Being compassionate, empathetic, and a good listener are the ways that I’ve found achieving what may sound like a daunting task on paper, is actually rather simple.
