The Tribal Broadband Connectivity Program And Bridging The Digital Divide
Interactive Map+Podcast
I designed the interactive map at the top to showcase some of the TBCP projects in progress throughout the country. By no means an exhaustive collection of every single project in each state, I chose to highlight the projects that I found to be the most interesting.
The map was largely inspired by the TBCP Awards Map featured on the official government site for the program. When researching the TBCP for other projects, I was disappointed at that site for the lack of specific information given about these projects other than where they are, who the recipients of the funding are, and what the total funding is for the individual projects. I had to seek out more detailed information about projects I was interested in by reading public documents and articles that went more in depth than what I could find on the TBCP Awards Map. The map that I created below is meant to be a modest representation of what I wanted the official government site to be like, with detailed descriptions of each project.
Below the map is a podcast in which I go into detail about the digital divide, the Tribal Broadband Connectivity Program itself, and how the TBCP has enabled the Southern Ute's ambitious broadband infrastructure project. The second half of the podcast features a conversation with Joaquin Alvarado on the topic of Indigenous Data Sovereignty and why it matters.
